Lysie Celestin Joanem
Lysie Celestin Joanem is a graduate of St. Thomas University School of Law, where she received both the Juris Doctor and Master’s of Law in Human Rights degrees. Before and during law school, Lysie worked with women who had suffered domestic violence, human trafficking, or other violent crimes as a paralegal at Americans for Immigrant Justice. She also worked for many years as a union organizer with the Service Employees International Union, where she promoted and defended workers rights in organizing and advocacy campaigns, as well as grievance procedures and contract negotiations. She also has a law degree from Haiti, where she has worked for many years for the Department of Justice. Lysie has served as a volunteer and executive board member with several nonprofit organizations because of her commitment to help improve other people’s lives and opportunities, promote development, and alleviate poverty.
